The Procedure
-
We use the Plastibell method of circumcision.
This is the most commonly used method in the UK, and is also popular in the USA and Middle-East.
-
The actual procedure takes around 10 minutes.
We start by cleaning the area then applying a local anaesthetic. This is done using a tiny injection which numbs the site. This ensures no pain is experienced by your little one.
-
When we know the anaesthetic is working, we start the procedure. A small plastic ring (called Plastibell) is tied onto the end of the head of the penis (glans) and excess skin is carefully removed.
Once complete, you will be taken to a separate room and checked after 20 minutes. If everything is OK, you and your little one are now ready to go home.
-
In total, you can expect to spend up to 1 hour at the clinic. We will provide you with a letter to take to your GP, as well as our aftercare leaflet.
You can expect the ring to fall off by itself within the next 10 days.
